SSP attached to the CID Shani Abeysekera submitted a report of the progress of the investigations and a summary report to Colombo Additional Magistrate A.M. Sahabdeen. CID SSP’s report stated that when suspected DIG was being questioned before his arrest, he got up, threw back his chair and threatened the CID sleuths. Attorney-at-Law Ajith Pathirana appearing for suspected DIG Gunawardana told the court that keeping the DIG in the same prison with several inmates who were arrested by the DIG in the past would pose danger to the latter’s life. The Presidential Security Forces had thereafter escorted the monk to Temple Trees. Gossip9.lk News : DIG Vaas Gunawardena who was arrested yesterday over the murder of a businessman is being questioned under a 72-hour detention order, Police said. Bambalapitiya-based businessman Mohamed Siyam was abducted and murdered in the Dompe area on May 22.Following investigations conducted into the incident, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on June 06 arrested Sub-Inspector Lakmini Bamunusinghe, attached to the office of the DIG Western Province (North), along with three Police Constables (PCs) serving in the DIG’s special unit.Upon interrogating the arrested police officers, the CID uncovered information regarding the DIG’s alleged involvement in the businessman’s murder and recorded a statement from DIG Vaas Gunawardena on the same day. He was grilled by the CID for around 5 hours before being released, and due to the vast amount of information uncovered further investigations had speeded up. The DIG was expected to be taken in for questioning once again the following day (07), however the CID had decided to postpone it.According to police sources, the reason for this may have been due to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), N.K. Illangakoon attending a conference abroad, and further action was expected to be taken upon his return to the country on June 09. source : 01

Gossip9.lk News : Many complaints have been lodged in the Ehaliyagoda police by the people who had invested money at a woman called " Ehaliyagoda Ms. Sakwithi" that she has disappeared with their money. Ehaliyagoda OIC stated that this woman who maintained an office ina a nearby village had taken money in miilions from the well to do people in the area. The total amount of the investments defrauded has not yet been calculated. When the investors had gone to get their interest, they had found that she had disappeared. Gossip9.lk News : The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Sri Lanka police has quizzed a high ranking police officer over the murder of a businessman. The CID has questioned the Colombo North Deputy Inspector General Vass Gunawardena over the murder of businessmen after he was abducted from the Bambalapitiya area last month. The businessman's body with gunshot wounds was found in the Dompe area on 2013 May 22. According to local media reports a sub inspector of police and two constables were arrested on Wednesday on the information provided by two other suspects arrested for the murder earlier. source : 01

A group of JHU representatives held a protest in front of the hospital yesterday (2013/06/05) against this matter. Meanwhile, the Health Ministry has commenced a probe on a lady doctor and her assistant on recommending LRTs for expecting mothers during caesarian operations, without their approval.

Gossip9.lk News : Sri Lanka's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police had taken a journalist into custody for questioning over the video of the self-immolation by a Buddhist monk at Kandy, local media reported. The video journalist Sisira Suraweera supplied the video of the monk committing self-immolation to Swarnavahini TV which broadcast it. He is accused of being aware of the motive of the monk and not informing the police to prevent the unfortunate incident. The journalist gave evidence at the inquest of the self-immolated monk and said he had not read the letters given to him by the monk and he was unaware the motive of the monk. source : 01

Gossip9.lk News : An advertisement for a low alcoholic beverage produced in Japan has been made using scenes showing the Iconic Sigiriya rock fortress. According to reports, the concept of the advertisement is to convey that consumption of the beverage enables the drinker to obtain a feeling of greatness symbolized by the great historical fortress. Used by King Kashyapa as a rock fortress, it was used as a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century. Sigiriya is named as one of the most visited historic site in Sri Lanka and is a UNESCO listed World Heritage Site.
